5 Simple Ways to Clean the Toxic Air In Your Home

Did you know the air inside your home is 200% – 500% more toxic than the air you breathe outside?

If you’re like most people, you probably spend the majority of your time indoors. You also probably figure that given all of the pollution and toxins outside, that the air inside your house is safer. This is a completely reasonable assumption, but it’s one that’s surprisingly wrong.

The good news is that you have the ability to improve your home’s air quality, and you can do it by making a few simple changes.

First though, I want to talk about three deadly pollutants that have the potential to harm your family’s health the most. These are carbon monoxide, secondhand smoke, and radon gas.

The first, carbon monoxide, is an odorless gas that when breathed in displaces the oxygen in the blood and causes loss of consciousness and suffocation. The best way to combat carbon monoxide is to install a carbon monoxide detector. If gas is ever present, the alarm will go off.

The second, secondhand smoke, is the smoke that comes from burning tobacco, and no amount of it is safe. The best way to eliminate it is to ask smokers to take their cigarettes outside, that way the air in your home isn’t affected.

Third, radon gas. Radon gas is the leading cause of death among nonsmokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer. It’s odorless, invisible and naturally occurring. The best way to check for this gas is to have a radon test conducted, and if radon is present, you’ll want to get it filtered out immediately.

In addition to these deadly pollutants, most homes are contaminated by items we don’t realize are so harmful. Have you ever thought about the toxins in your cleaning products, chemicals in your wall paint, or pathogens hiding in your carpet?

Fortunately, you can easily, affordably and naturally purify the air in your home. To help with this, I recommend trying some of the following”

Take your shoes off as soon as you walk in the door.

Your shoes pick up a number of contaminants, such as e-coli, pesticides and or formaldehyde—gross. To avoid these contaminants spreading throughout your home and infecting your family, ditch your shoes at the door.

Use all-natural cleaning products.

Talk about unnecessary toxins, most all-purpose cleaners are packed with unpronounceable chemicals. These chemicals leach into the air even when they’re stored in a cabinet.

To go the all-natural route, try doTERRA On Guard Cleaner, or make your own cleaning products. Click here to discover my super simple DIY all-purpose cleaner recipe.

Make sure you’re vacuuming regularly.

Dust mites are a normal occurrence in any home, but they hold onto bacteria and unsavory smells. Try vacuuming frequently to get rid of any contaminants they’re carrying.

Change your air filter at least every three months.

Doing this will help keep dust mites and bacteria away, and is especially important if you have pets. To help ensure moisture doesn’t take over your home and cause mold to grow, run fans in your bathroom and open your windows frequently.

P.S.- If you suspect your home has black mold, take action immediately and get it tested.

Diffuse essential oils.

Certain doTERRA essential oils and blends such as Purify, On Guard, Juniper Berry, Lemon, Lime, and Melaleuca (Tea Tree) contain powerful cleansing properties.

With any of these oils, you can diffuse them to cleanse and purify the air. Some you can also dilute in water and use as surface cleaners.

Whether you’ve thought about the toxins in your home before or you’re just now becoming aware, I’d love to hear in the comments below what changes you’re planning to make to improve your home’s air quality.
