What does your morning routine look like? Do you struggle to wake up, only to constantly hit the snooze button? Do you wake up early but feel rushed and more stressed than when you went to bed? Whatever your morning routine looks like, if you want to improve it, you can.

Here are seven ways to makeover your morning routine and start each day more positive.

Set your alarm for an earlier time.

I know, I know. This one can be like pulling teeth, but for many of us, when we’re rushed in the morning, it will affect our mood for the rest of the day. By waking earlier, we can eliminate those feelings.

Studies have shown that the average adult needs about seven to nine hours of sleep per night. According to sleep.org, the best way to figure out when you should go to sleep is to count backwards eight hours from the time you need to wake up. [source]

Open the curtains and let the light in.

By opening the curtains and letting the sunlight be your natural alarm clock, you’ll find that it can make the waking up process easier and more natural. It also can help improve your mood right off because you’re gradually waking the body up rather than jotting the body awake with an alarm clock.

The Dawn Simulation Theory states that early morning light signals have a much greater effect on the body’s biological clock than light signals given at other times of the day.

Make sure to eat a healthy breakfast.

A healthy breakfast of fresh whole fruits and vegetables, and healthy proteins provides your body with the resources it needs to for the day ahead—energy production, growth, and other metabolic functions.

Consider making a protein shake for breakfast. And don’t forget to take your vitamins! doTERRA Lifelong Vitality Pack is formulated with scientifically backed ingredients and potent levels of essential whole food nutrients for long-lasting energy, mental clarity, and optimal health. [source]

Keep your phone out of reach.

I know how instinctive it may be to reach for your phone when you wake up, but it’s important to keep it away. Often checking just one social media outlet will trigger stress and ultimately ruin your good mood.

Instead of checking your phone first thing, consider more uplifting activities such as personal study, exercise, meditation and or fixing a nutritious breakfast.

Wake up and stretch.

As your body wakes, it’s important to take a few minutes to stretch and center your body and mind. I recommend doing this while also diffusing your favorite essential oil blend. It really helps to increase your energy and get you focused on the day ahead. Additionally, morning exercise can increase your productivity throughout the day and is a good way to keep your stress level down, too.

Turn on your diffuser.

One of my favorite things to do in the morning is to turn on my diffuser (and have a glass of water with lemon essential oil). If you prep your diffuser the night before, when you wake in the morning all you have to do is sit back and turn it on. Try Citrus Bliss, doTERRA Motivate, or Elevation and allow the aromas to energize and uplift your mood for the day.

Goal one: make your bed.

This one is super easy, and yet so many of us avoid it. Start your day by accomplishing one goal: making your bed. By completing this one action, you’ll have motivation to continue achieving goals throughout the day. And when we complete goals and get further through our to-do list, we’re more positive and generally in a better mood.

Now, I’d love to hear from you. What changes will you make to your morning routine? Have you tried any of these before? What’s worked in the past and what hasn’t?
