essential oils Dec 19, 2016

Essential oils have become quite popular in today’s society, but did you know these powerful oils have been used for thousands of years? They were used by the ancient Egyptians, and they are referenced throughout the bible.

In the first chapter of Genesis, it is written that God placed mankind in the Garden of Eden. God knew from the very beginning that this perfect environment would be the key source for mankind’s healing and health.

Daily applications of essential oils in biblical times were extensive. 36 of the 39 books of the Old Testament and 10 of the 27 books of the New Testament mention essential oilsor the plants that produce them. They are mentioned more than 500 times in the Bible! These were the health solutions provided by God.

God provided these plants and oils to support your body, mind, and spirit. They were the original source of healing and that connection is still available for you today.

In this video I share 12 essential oils that were used in biblical times. It’s meant to be a guide for exploring and learning more about these tools that God made available to you to help keep you healthy physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Most of the oils mentioned in the Bible are what we call essential oils today. Why are they called “essential oils?” Each of these extracts or oils is the “essence” of the plant it comes from. Essential oils are the extracts from plants that are distilled into concentrated, pure oils that retain the unique aromatic and medicinal qualities of that plant.

They are natural aromatic compounds found in seeds, barks, stems, roots, flowers, and various other parts of plants. Essential Oils are extremely potent and range from 50-70x more powerful than herbs.

Historically, most “perfumes” were essential oils. The production and use of essential oils has been going on for thousands of years, but not until recent times could we view them microscopically and understand them scientifically as we can now.

Today, many people use essential oils. Some use them merely for their scent, but more use them for their health.

Here are some quick essential oil facts:

  • Egyptians used essential oils for medicinal purposes, religious ceremonies, beauty treatments, and in food.
  • Frankincense and myrrh were considered gifts of the wise men and were extremely valuable for their healing properties. – Matt. 2:11
  • Frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, and cinnamon were valued more highly than gold.
