Essential oils are alternative medicines that have been around for ages now and, in fact, have been used by various cultures because of their effectiveness in improving every facet of life.

They have healed, made beautiful, even calmed many people for a long time now all because of their aromatic ingredients. From improving your brain function, to giving you healthier skin, and keeping your house sanitary, essential oils can change your everyday life.

They are technically the lifeblood of plants since these oils are extracted naturally from them, along with the scent and flavor called essence which has healing properties. Each plant has a distinct essence with distinct characteristics and purpose, to target whatever physical, mental, or emotional daily need you have.

Originally, essential oils’ biological role within plants is to attract pollinators and defend themselves against insects and other animals. For us humans, they do their job commonly through aromatherapy, providing a holistic improvement to our health and well-being with the help of our olfactory nerves.

They can also be helpful when applied to the skin. Oils help nourish the skin and support cellular health through topical use.

While most oils on the market are unsafe for internal consumption, doTERRA oils are scientifically backed and approved to use internally to support your organs from the inside. One of my favorite ways to use citrus oils is by adding a drop to my water or tea.

Essential oils are extracted from plants through various processes—either stream distillation, expression, or a CO2 extraction. All these processes are critical as they determine the effectivity of the products. Essential oils must not undergo any chemical procedure since they are made to be natural products for medicinal use, so you want to be careful when purchasing them.

The best way for these oils to work is through a combination of inhalation and absorption through the surface of the skin. During inhalation, the nerves deliver signals to the brain and go straight to work on the targeted body system. The nasal cavity is what gives these essential oils direct access to the brain, stimulating the limbic system which plays a huge role on emotions.

Because of the penetration it causes, a powerful influence on your well-being is produced. On the other hand, direct application is the process of directly rubbing the essential oil on your skin. Healing components are quickly and fully absorbed in the bloodstream through the effort of the pores and follicles.

Then, the oil disperses in the specific organs or systems on which they work. The pulse points, such as the temples, wrist and the back of the neck, are where they are frequently rubbed. The explanation for this is that, pulse points are where the blood vessels are closest to the surface the skin.

Here are some of the ways on how essential oils can change your daily life:

They work great as home air purifiers

These natural compounds work better than your chemical humidifier because they contain no harmful chemicals or synthetic fragrance. Essential oil diffusers are very affordable and easy to use. Simply add water and a few drops of oil and you can turn your home into a zen oasis.

They can be used as insect repellants

A published article from the Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research shows that essential oils prevent the attraction of different insects. For mosquitoes, the best compounds are citronella, peppermint, basil and thyme. Cedarwood, eucalyptus, and tea tree keep the fleas away, while rose geranium, juniper and grapefruit are proven to be effective tick repellants.

Essential oils lower stress and anxiousness

These oils indeed have properties that can give you that calm and relaxing feeling. For instance, Portuguese case reporters on alternative and integrative medicines attempted to group individuals into two. The first group had their stress treated with essential oils and a certain type of massage. The second group only received massage. In the end, they found a significant 12% and 30% decreased stress level among the first group.

Some essential oils for reducing anxious feelings include lavender, ylang ylang, and roman chamomile

They can soothe and prevent skin conditions

We know essential products are commonly found in skin care products because of improving the skin’s quality. In fact, natural tea tree oil is used for spot treatment. According to Zipsi, et al., certain essential oils can be considered valuable cosmeceutical ingredients because of their antioxidant properties.

There are a number of oils that can do wonders to your skin and hair, and some of them are frankincense, lavender, myrrh, clary sage, and roman chamomile.

They soothe headaches and tension

Essential oils are not like painkillers that only mask discomfort because they literally kill what causes the aches and discomfort. For head and neck tension, peppermint and eucalyptus the most recommended oils that can relieve the throb due to their cooling effect.

Essential oils balance hormones

They balance estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, thyroid, and testosterone levels in the body. The International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Phytopharmacological research for PCOS proved in their review that essential oils can actually regulate menstrual cycles without fluctuating the hormonal levels. Some of the best oils for hormone support include clary sage, ClaryCalm, thyme, and sandalwood.

Essential oils have more benefits to your physical health and well-being, such as boosting your immunity, supporting your digestion, improving your sleep, etc., which are great for your maximum performance throughout the day. They are natural, safe, and cost-effective therapies that can change your daily life by making you feel uplifted and healthy all the time.
