How to Cook Spaghetti Squash

nutrition Jan 06, 2014

I love squash, and there are so many wonderful, different varieties to choose from. One of my favorites is spaghetti squash.

Its name is fitting because once it’s cooked, it literally comes apart like spaghetti. It is a perfect nutrient-dense, low-carb substitute for pasta in any dish. Whether you’re gluten-free, paleo, or just trying to eat healthier, this squash is a tasty item to incorporate into your diet. You’d never know by looking at a spaghetti squash that it would end up looking like pasta, but it does, and you should try it!

Below are simple instructions for cooking spaghetti squash. Once cooked, just use in place of pasta in your favorite dish. It makes a wonderful side dish as well. Enjoy!

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Cut spaghetti squash in half length-wise.
  3. Scoop out seeds and discard.
  4. Place the two halves face down in baking dish.
  5. Pour ½ cup water into dish.
  6. Bake for 30-40 minutes.
  7. Once cooked, use a fork to remove squash from shell. (It will come apart like spaghetti!)
  8. Use in place of pasta in any pasta dish.

Example- mix with chicken, marinara sauce and veggies for a delicious spaghetti option
