Head tension is a common ailment that most of us experience at some point in our lives. So, we all know how debilitating it can be, especially the more severe it is.

Whether you experience mild pain occasionally, or you experience severe pain regularly, essential oils can help reduce and alleviate your tension and pressure.

An important thing to remember is that head tension can be caused by a number of different issues. It could be related to stress, hormones, or an inflammatory response triggered by something else such as food intolerances.

With that said, there’s not one oil that works for everyone. When using essential oils for health ailments, it sometimes requires experimenting with a few different oils to see which formula gives you the results you desire.

Often times it helps to combine a few oils to get the best benefit.

Below are my top five essential oils to ease head tension.

Peppermint

Peppermint is popular oil with a variety of uses. For many people, peppermint does wonders for reducing head tension.  Peppermint has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that really help relieve the pressure and throbbing in your head.

Lavender

Lavender is on of my favorite oils and offers powerful relaxing and soothing properties. This is super helpful when you want to alleviate tension and pressure in the body. Lavender has anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, histamine-soothing, and uplifting properties, making is an ideal solution.

Frankincense

Frankincense is a very valuable oil that is literally good for just about anything. It supports the body at the cellular level, making your body and your immune system function better. Frankincense has anti-inflammatory and uplifting properties and is an immune stimulant, helping to strengthen your immune system.

Rosemary

Rosemary is a great oil to help reduce nagging head tension. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Cardamom

Cardamom has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that act as a powerful solution for eliminating head tension.

With all of these oils, you can use them topically and aromatically to reduce head tension. For aromatic use, add to a diffuser or inhale the oils from the bottle or the palm of your hands. For topical use, apply 1-2 drops to the back of your neck, temples and/or across your forehead.

As I mentioned previously, some people experience relief from just using a single oil, while others of us may get greater benefit from a combination of oils.
