What is breathwork?

I’m excited to share that I’ve added Breathwork to my list of services! I know you might be wondering, what is breathwork? As a holistic health coach I understand that optimal health isn’t just one thing. It involves many components including nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, detox, life purpose, healthy relationships, mental/emotional health, spirituality practice and more.

When I first started as a health coach, I focused primarily on nutrition and supplemental nutritional support. If someone has the other areas of their life in check, then this approach can work really well. But for most people, including myself, it doesn’t get you all the way there.

The big missing piece I see even in functional medicine is not addressing stress and emotional health.

If you are living in chronic stress, your body is not in a state for healing. While you can clean up your diet and take a bunch of supplements, which may help calm some inflammation and oxidative stress, you still must implement tools to calm the nervous system, rewire the brain, and release emotional trauma.

That’s where breathwork is incredibly effective.

Simply changing the way you breathe can help you do this. Your breath is the one function that is controlled by the autonomic nervous system but also under your conscious control. Meaning it happens automatically without you thinking about it but you can also tune into your breath and change it.

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is next-level meditation. If you have trouble meditating, then breathwork is the perfect tool for you because you’ll be able to enter a deep meditative state. If you love to meditate, then you’ll love breathwork. There are many types of breathing techniques out there, each with their own set of benefits and many of them are rooted in ancient techniques like yoga and pranayama. The breathwork style that I teach is called SOMA Breath. SOMA Breath is a complete holistic system of breathing techniques.

SOMA Breath takes fundamental Pranayama techniques put into a sequence that combines rhythmical breathing to beat-driven music, for therapeutic function and makes it easy and accessible to anyone who would like to benefit.

These breathing exercises become your toolbox of techniques that you can use to treat or prevent a range of issues that may arise in your body.

Think of SOMA Breath as a means to activate your “Inner Pharmacy” through the power of your breath.

Benefits include:

  • Awaken dormant functions of the brain.
  • Enhance creativity and problem-solving.
  • Create heightened states of consciousness and inspiration.
  • Improve brain function and mind power.
  • Cleanse and purify the bloodstream and lymphatic system.
  • Stimulate self-healing.
  • Reduce depression/anxiety.
  • Clear negative imprints and traumas from early life (0-7 years).
  • Reimprint your mind with more empowering beliefs and habits.
  • Set intentions and create the motivation and energy to complete important goals.
  • Self-realization: discover your true self and your deepest inner calling.
